On Saturday, July 23, World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the spread of monkeypox to be a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), the organization’s loudest alarm bell signifying an emerging outbreak.
This year, more than 14,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 71 Member States from all six WHO regions. While transmission of the virus is tending to decline in some countries, it is on the rise in others. This is especially true in countries where monkeypox diagnosis and vaccines are not available, making it more difficult to track and curb outbreaks.
In the meantime, WHO is approving additional tests and procuring and shipping them for multiple countries. In addition, WHO is continuing to provide support for expanding access to validated diagnostics.
Since the sudden rise of the global monkeypox epidemic, Singuway has ramped up the global supply of monkeypox detection kits. We now offer Detection Kit for Monkeypox Virus (MPV) with a minimum extraction time of 9 minutes and a minimum detection time of 35 minutes, making the entire test process only takes 44 minutes.
